Multitool

Small Tools, Big Difference
#

There are things you do on a computer all the time that should be simple. Renaming a bunch of files at once, resizing images, keeping your screen awake during a presentation. On Linux, some of these are built into your desktop, others are scattered across different apps with outdated or inconsistent interfaces, and some still require the terminal. Nothing is in one place.

Microsoft calls theirs PowerToys. We call ours Multitool, because we’re here to get work done, not play around. One clean, modern suite that works with your desktop.

What’s Included
#

  • Awake: Keep your screen from going to sleep during presentations or long-running tasks.
  • Power Rename: Rename multiple files at once with a live preview so you can see the changes before they happen.
  • Image Resizer: Resize, convert, and optimize batches of images right from your file manager.
  • Peek: Preview files without opening them. Images, documents, code, and more.
  • Hosts Editor: Edit your system’s hosts file with a simple graphical tool instead of a text editor.
  • File Locksmith: Find out which program is using a file so you can close it or free it up.
  • Environment Variables: View and change your system’s environment variables without the terminal.

More tools are being added over time.

Works with GNOME and KDE. Multitool comes with native apps for both desktops so it looks and feels like it belongs on your system.
